Welcome from North Muskham Community Support

North Muskham Community Support is supported by North Muskham Parish Council. We’re a community support group set up to help members of our village when people need a little bit of extra help. We can help wit all sorts of everyday tasks, from helping with your shopping to collecting and returning your library books.

If you’d like some help from a local volunteer, just ask by clicking on one of the ‘Request Help’ buttons on this page, or email us at northmuskham@helpmystreet.org. You can also call us on 07946 601364.

More about our village

North Muskham is an elongated rural village, situated between the River Trent and the A1 north of Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire.

It is an attractive village with a population of around 1000. It has a primary school, a popular village pub, The Muskham Ferry, and a well used Community Centre that provides facilities to the village, and also the neighbouring communities of Bathley and South Muskham.

It has a 12th Century Church, St Wilfrid’s, and the village appeared in the Domesday Book as Muscham in the hundred of Lythe.

“Much needed social interaction„

I have been volunteering for Age UK as a befriender since January this year. Befriending for me gives me a break from the computer, and some much needed social interaction in the week, as well as the feeling like I am doing something worthwhile for someone else at the same time. No matter what age you are, I feel if you sit around the house with no one to talk to for days on end, it is very easy to suddenly feel isolated and dispirited. I feel I benefit from the social side of volunteering, just as much as Yvonne does.

“An absolute lifeline„

My husband and I would like to thank you all so much for all the help you arranged for vulnerable people during the lockdown. We had to make use of the service provided for medication several times and it was an absolute lifeline. We are a long way away from our family and at times things were quite difficult, but it felt so good to know that there was a backup there if we needed it. Thank you very much.

Les and I get on like a house on fire and it is one of the most nourishing relationships I could have. He's an ex-miner and has just tuned 91 though you'd never know it. He has a cracking sense of humour and we've become really good friends over the last year and I wouldn't miss our weekly meet up for the world and neither would Les. We talk about all manner of things and it truly is a two way process of learning and growing in openness and understanding.

When I heard that Ruddington was in need of volunteers to assist with the Covid response I was really keen to get involved. I have children at both local schools and it was great to be able to deliver schoolwork out to their classmates who were stuck at home. Although they knew what it meant when they saw me walking towards the door, most of the kids were excited to be getting a delivery from school and to see what fresh challenges had been set by their teachers.

Community Lincs provided the spark that ignited interest in setting-up our Good Neighbour Scheme and has provided ongoing support from initial consultation with the local community through presentations, networking with existing organisations and co-ordinating a community survey to the formation of a constituted group with policies, procedures and a bespoke IT system culminating in a fully operational scheme. The breadth of support provided has been particularly impressive.

It gives me peace of mind that there is always someone to help with my many regular trips to various clinics, and I really enjoy the regular visits from my befriender. HelpMyStreet.org was created to help people volunteering to support their communities through the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, we’ve partnered with a number of organisations to make volunteering and finding volunteers simple, safe and effective for everyone.

We are a non-profit community interest company - founded by a healthcare analytics and digital company - that wanted to make a difference during the pandemic and beyond.
